FAIRBANKS, Alaska - On Thursday, March 31, Golden Valley Electric Association announced a series of grants aimed at non-profits around the Fairbanks community.
The awards, totaling more than $21,000, are part of the “Good¢ents” program, in which GVEA customers choose to round their monthly electric bills up to the nearest dollar. The proceeds from this effort are given out to non-profits within GVEA’s service area every quarter. Meadow Bailey, Director of External Affairs and Public Relations at GVEA, said, “The goal, really, is to be able to support nonprofits, which we recognize make a big difference in our communities. This program was voted on by GVEA members. They wanted to have a round-up program, so 10 years ago, they voted to have the round-up program, the Good¢ents program, put into place.”
This year’s recipients include Access Alaska, North Star Ballet, and the Interior Alaska Cancer Association, American Cancer Society of Alaska, Fairbanks Youth Advocates and Friends of Hockey Club Fairbanks. Those applications can be found
