YOUR SAY: Should residents be allowed to display political messages on garbage bins? A Sydney council is threatening to not collect residents' rubbish from bins that display anti-Scott Morrison stickers. FULL STORY: 9News

Liberal-led Hornsby Shire Council has clashed with residents of one house who have climate change messaging featuring the Federal Government on their bins.

The stickers show images of Prime Minister Scott Morrison holding a lump of call in parliament, along with Deputy Prime Minister Barnaby Joyce, with taglines like "chuck them out" and "bin him".A resident in Hornsby has stuck climate change posters featuring the Federal Government on their bins.

Mr Ruddock also said it was not his decision to impose the threat but council officers made the call."I think it's so funny," Caity Riley, a resident on the street, said."I think everyone is entitled to their own opinion, don't think it should be taken that seriously. The household responded to the council's threat by claiming their main concern is climate change.

9NewsAUS Bins may get wrecked if people don't agree with the message on the bin. So I think the bins should stay plain.

How come it's apparently OK to print rubbish like this on the front page of the Herald Sun (obviously targeted at Labor), but not OK to put it on your own personal garbage bin?

9NewsAUS The councils threat to not collect bins is ironically more political than the political advertising itself.

Yes

Surely there are bigger issues to worry about…

9NewsAUS Nope

How do you get the stickers off waste of time and effort -- how long will we have to look at them after the election has produced another bunch of corrupt politicians

It freedom of speech

Clickbait NoRealJournosCh9

SmartVoting2022

SmartVoting2022 Yes they need to harden up, losers

Should governments be allowed to use tax payer money to buy coal from donors to “send” to Ukraine is probably a more appropriate question.

9NewsAUS We could have MeanBins on them

No. There is already enough mention on it on the internet and social media already- leave the bins alone.

9NewsAUS So the politicians won’t put any signs up then when it’s time for election? Same thing

yes as politicians send us plenty of flier rubbish

SmartVoting2022

That’s where politics belong. Garbage bins and dumps 🤓

This is sometimes referred to as free speech, but it is a health hazzard if bins are not collected

I think it's a good idea. We put something like ' Ban Islam' on the bins. It could be a good way for people to show the Government and others what they want to happen.

No. Bins are not their property. They are defacing council property 🤷‍♀️

9NewsAUS Shouldn’t we be putting political promises into these bins?

Council’s should just stick to what we’re paying our rates for and just empty the damn bins

9NewsAUS No, it’s not a ad billabong. Bins should only be displayed with what goes in the bin instructions.

9NewsAUS Yes why not it's apart of freedom speach and freedom of expression.

They pay their rates…. Council needs to do their job and stop trying to impose their politics

Yes. Hasn't Ruddock got anything more important to worry about? Vote him out!

9NewsAUS Ofcourse we pay our rates and we pay for replacement bins !! Councils don’t say anything about other stickers ! BinScomo

Really! Stickers on bins are not an issue. People in NSW lost everything in flood waters recently and arewaiting for assistance...that is an issue!

9NewsAUS If people are so child minded nothing can be done I guess. Just have pity for them.

How about toilet paper with politicians faces on each sheet?

If politicians can shove their advertisement down our throats then why can't the public?

Yes

No!

clickbait

Hahaha yea, come on they treat us like trash anyways.

9NewsAUS Well who owns the bins?

No.

I say every one empty their bins at the council chambers if they refuse to pick it up

9NewsAUS Dam Councils..

Yes that's where they belong on a bin. Or in it actually.

There is Greens propaganda everywhere, usually in the form of graffiti. I'd remove that before I'd worry about a sticker on a bin.

9NewsAUS The council said it was because their drivers couldn't see the council logo on the bin! It seems an audit of all bins in the area is due to make sure council logos are visible........ yeah right 🤣😅😂

Nope , the bins are councils property

What about cricket wickets 😱. Are the LIberal party declaring a war on cricket stickers too, or just political ones. (hmm, hard to make a 'property' argument when you have been ignoring stickers for years.)

9NewsAUS What next? Cars? Sides of buildings? Banners across homes? I don’t care about the politics but it will make for a nasty ugly neighbourhood. Only your votes matter

Time to put the Liberals into the bin. They have produced no policies, increased debt beyond belief, cost of living is going high, wages are stagnant, people are hurting. Vote these detached clowns out.

9NewsAUS Freedom of Political Association/Expression protected by the Hogh Court

Freedom of speech is under threat

we are ratepayers, we pay for council, those are our bins, the audacity of Philip Ruddock claiming Hornsby Council owns them, that’s like Morrison saying tax payers’ money belongs to the govt - No doubt if it was an effigy of Anthony Albanese the Libs wouldn’t have a problem

A dustbin near me displays fake anti-vax stuff & abuse of M.McGowan, but I don’t think it should be legislated against. I sometimes feel like correcting the messages though.
