NSW Planning Minister scraps order to consider flood, fire risks before building | juliepower

NSW Planning Minister Anthony Roberts scrapped a requirement to consider the risks of floods and fires before building new homes only two weeks after it came into effect and while the state was reeling from a deadly environmental disaster.

The president of the NSW chapter of the Australian Institute of Architects, Laura Cockburn, said the decision was difficult to understand “after the recent devastating floods and with bushfires still scorched in our memory”. Mr Roberts’ move coincides with expectations the government will also scrap or substantially change the new Design and Place State Environmental Planning Policy under consideration for apartments and homes. The policy stresses sustainability, quality and liveability by requiring, for example, better ventilation.Mr Stokes’ directive on sustainable development, issued on December 2 but in effect from March 1, was designed to simplify the planning system, cut red tape and put people first.

“Land use should be compatible with the level of risk of an area, such as open space or playing fields in flood-prone locations,” Mr Stokes’ statement of principles said. “The added significance of why we support the Minister’s announcement is that he has doubled down on housing supply and affordability, and has recognised the industry has been in an elongated process of policy reform.”

He was disappointed to see Mr Stokes’ principles abandoned when NSW’s planning system needed reform. “The definition of stupidity is doing something again and again, and expecting another result,” he said. “We wanted a modern planning system that was inclusive.”

juliepower Any government official who makes a decision like this should automatically be removed from his position, have all benefits taken from them, and then throw them in jail for corruption and intentionally putting Australians at risk. LNPCorruptionParty LNPCrimeFamily LNPDisgrace

juliepower And so he should ! ACC is a fairytale Woketards tell each other in order to feed their own need for relevance.

juliepower Jail that man.

juliepower NSWDPE we know the NSW government is doing EXACTLY the opposite of what it should be doing against the ClimateCrisis. The laws of nature apply and will punish the Ministers. Unfortunately, we are all collateral damage

juliepower Why

juliepower Well now that the Northern Beaches is a flood plain... 🤷‍♂️

juliepower This decision is incomprehensible. If it's too hard for developers to consider the risks of natural disasters before building, they shouldn't *be* developers.

juliepower F$ck me dead

bencubby juliepower Unbelievable! auspol

juliepower The gov't just gave NSW the big middle finger with one hand and stuffing their pockets with the other.

juliepower That didn’t take long

juliepower In the BananaRepublic of NSW, floods and wildfires are naturally divine acts of GOD. So, if you die, it’s only because the good god wanted it to be so. This inept government won’t interfere with godly interests. Now, say thanks to Liberals, DOM & GLADYS in particular.

juliepower

juliepower That’s fine. I’m sure they’ll be covering the insurance costs for all those new developments then…

juliepower

juliepower Clearly Dom_Perrottet’s govt pays lip service to caring about environmental risk RobStokesMP had actually done some studies in planning , so perhaps he had some good ideas but hey let’s give it to another boy from Perrottet’s Catholic club to stuff up

juliepower Anthony resides in the rather wealthy electorate of Lane Cove. He doesn't have to worry about things like this.

juliepower Locusts devour everything in their path and then move on. They have no capacity to care about what they leave behind. They live for now.

juliepower It is the Govt's pathway to creating affordable temporary housing - affordable because it removes costs associated with risk considerations - temporary housing because it removes considerations of risk in those developments opening houses to flood, fire etc...

juliepower What the actual fuck! Is it ethical to lumber people with uninsurable assets?

juliepower Lunacy or greed?

juliepower Brains of a sweaty BallSack.

juliepower Absolutely typical AnthonyRoberts and Domicron

Qldaah juliepower This is a criminal people can and will die

juliepower Can't believe that; too stupid!

juliepower Of course he would the corrupt Liberals need to fill their pockets with developers money

juliepower NSW needs a new Government urgently

juliepower here are my naked photos

juliepower Seriously these people have zero duty of care as they allow communities to risk lives…the system has proven to lack moral & ethical responsibilities as they lick the boots of their puppet masters.
