Plaudits for NSW government's decision to approve a 500MW battery storing solar and wind power on the site of the ageing Liddell coal-fired power station.

One of Australia's leading energy analysts says a 500-megawatt battery is an ideal way to begin the replacement of the Liddell power station near Muswellbrook in the NSW Hunter Valley, which will shut next year.It is anticipated the battery will help meet demand as the power station shuts downTony Wood is the program director for energy and climate change at the Grattan Institute. He's keen to stress that AGL's battery is not a simple replacement for a power station.

"What it does is it helps balance the system. The battery will then be able to get the electricity from the grid and put it back into the grid when we need it." "It doesn't solve everything but it makes a big difference, as we move from a system that's overwhelmingly fossil-fuel coal and gas-based to one that's going to be wind and solar-based," Mr Wood said.

Are these people THAT stupid that they don't know a battery doesn't actually GENERATE power

Insanity rules in NSW. Build more coal fired power stations NOW !

From 2000 megawatt to 500 megawatt. That'll keep the country running. Not.

Why is there Any coal fired power stations in Australia when they can all be replaced by batteries that don't generate one watt of electricity. Good one Australia. Roflolololo.

Don’t tell Scottie or Angus. “To reduce emissions from coal fired power stations, we must keep using coal fired power stations for as long as possible”.

Grid batteries are for Ancillary Frequency Control, they are not for storage. To equate a battery with a generator is misleading
