TOKYO : Japan's core consumer inflation could briefly approach the central bank's 2per cent target as geopolitical risks push up energy costs and put"strong upward pressure" on prices for the time being, Bank of Japan board member Junko Nakagawa said on Thursday.

"Even if that happens, what's important is to scrutinise the factors and whether Japan's economic fundamentals are strong enough to make such price rises sustainable," Nakagawa said in a speech.
