The House of Commons held an emergency debate Wednesday night on the devastating floods in British Columbia amid increased attention to how ill-prepared the country is for the effects of a changing climate.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau used the debate to once again assure British Columbians that the federal government, which has already deployed more than 500 Canadian Armed Forces members, will be there to support them and help them rebuild from the flooding and deadly mudslides.

While his government has already invested "record amounts" of money to help build more resilient infrastructure, Trudeau promised to increase funding for municipalities through the Disaster Mitigation and Adaptation Fund. Among other things, May said the federal government should cancel the TransMountain oil pipeline expansion project and put the people to work rebuilding communities hit by extreme weather and the infrastructure needed to prevent future devastation.

"The bottom line, we all knew what the risks were and should have seen it coming but nothing substantive was ever done about it." In Newfoundland and Labrador, the southwestern town of Channel-Port aux Basques was cut off by road entirely when rain washed out parts of the Trans-Canada Highway and the only other secondary road leading in and out of the town.

Multiple reports in recent years have identified what is most vulnerable in Canada to climate change, pointing usually to infrastructure like roads, bridges and power grids, the North, fisheries and the health and well-being of individuals.

And yet B.C. will vote him in again. Lol.

Useless unless the world forces CCP to comply.

Forget the debate Just get on with rebuilding the infrastructure some of which should have been previously upgraded We have had a carbon tax for some time but so far lots of talk but limited action on preparing for climate change

There is no reliable evidence connecting extreme weather events with 'climate change'. Even the UN IPCC has admitted this:

Forget the “climate change “ bit and just deal with helping BC cause you can’t change climate.

“Let’s print money to get out of it”. “Yeah that’s what I’ll do”.

Emergency debates? There’s nothing to debate here, start writing checks but oh yeah, there’s no money out there

I'm no expert but I'm guessing if we can't get a handle on inflation, climate control would be a pipe dream, eh?
