The federal government will partner with the private sector to fund 50,000 charging stations in Australian homes, in a bid to encourage more people to buy electric vehicles.

Increased funding for charging infrastructure is expected to create 2,600 jobs over three yearsThe long-awaited Future Fuels strategy does not include subsidies, tax incentives, sales targets or minimum fuel emission standards that would make electric vehicles more affordable though, according to industry groups.

The strategy includes expanding the Future Fuels Fund to a total of $250 million of taxpayers' funds, which the government estimates will create 2,600 jobs over three years.

Suddenly Scomo is big on choice - well choice of car at least, but no to choice around vaccines.. Like with every government, every decision, follow the money... Electric vehicles - big oil Vaccine requirements and boosters - big pharma Subs in 50 years - big arms/defence

The average Australian can not afford to buy an electric vehicle when they currently sell for $60k+. More affordable options need to enter the market.

This is such a bs announcement. Subsidies for at home charging stations. How about subsidies to buy the outrageously expensive vehicles. ScuMo playing Australians for fools yet again. Obvz has concerns about votes of ppl who already own EV's. Hmm wonder why. auspol

Gov commits = rorting at the ready* Charging stations = targeted seats to buy votes Private sector ‘partners’ = donors 2,600 jobs = made up number, you can’t see modelling does not set target = we don’t care about EV uptake *Colour coded spreadsheet the important policy outcome

No subsidies. Waste of Tax payers money. Businesses are already loaded with state and federal grants.

Despite absolutely rubbishing the idea at the last election. Glad they've changed their minds, finally!

Can cars run off hydrogen safely? Hydrogen driven cars as opposed to electric might be a better option for a country like Australia.

Because they're playing politics not environmentalists, electric vehicles charge from coal fired powerhouses and the best option is hydrogen fuel cell cars

Why should rich people get subsidies to buy new cars?

Looks like ScottyfromMarketing is joining the War Against Weekend

Typical far left propaganda from the far left ABC, clueless when it comes to logic. If renewables are the cheaper option, why on earth do they need a subsidy?

Bet the LNP find a subsidy when BMW, Mercedes and Rolls Royce release their EVs in 2023. Assuming they win the next election of course. Better ask Rupert I suppose.

That's pretty pathetic.

Surely the market should drive uptake… not taxpayers.

Blah blah blah

Ev's are so overpriced and on top of that DictatorDan going to charge us 2.5 cents per kilometre I drive around 35000 a year I have to be a millionaire to afford one

Use tax to subsidise?

Hang on... don’t electric vehicles destroy our utes & weekends?!? auspol theliarfromtheshire

Notice how the electric car industry is always asking for taxpayer subsidies or penalties applied to their internal combustion engine competitors. If their product was so good they wouldn't need either.

Good. Subsidies are middle class welfare. What we need is a mechanism to have EVs replace the old bangers poor people are forced to buy. Establish a national government buying agency, have all govts cars be EVs and flood the 2nd hand market with them so they are avail to all

Charging stations in homes? You get those free with your car... so what are they funding?

'commits ... but no subsidies to increase uptake' No, that's not a commitment.

Why does Scott want to kill the weekend? Or is this just another case of being slow to the party? Like the banking royal commission. Or helping with bushfires. Or signing up to net Zero? notaleaderjustaliberal
