Wholesale gas prices have risen 250% since January.
Paul Richards, chief executive of Together Energy, which he said is currently making losses, said while he supported a price cap to protect customers, the current mechanism "is not fit for industry, nor is it fit for customers". Derek Lickorish, chairman of Utilita Energy, which has more than 800,000 customers, said there was no doubt consumers would end up paying for failed firms.
A number of Conservative MPs have called for the government to act, and the Energy Intensive Users Group - which represents firms that use a lot of energy - said measures were needed "right now" to stop shut downs having a wider impact.
Not the brightest spark but certainly full of gas !
Now there's been chatter about removing the price cap. That happens and people ought to cancel their direct debits. Energy companies won't be able to take everyone to court or send bailiffs to each property. Would the energy companies risk going up against the public?
Well done Kwasi. First you let 70 private companies go bust after giving us all sorts of unfounded promises, and then he let the tax payers pay, when most of the fold. How many billions did these companies pay their bosses prior to their collapses Classic Tory !
At least the Refugees will be nice and warm for free in their hotels👍
Intermittent energy will never work. Britian energy crisis is where Australia is heading. Gas prices skyrocketing, electricity prices increasing rapidly, factories shutting down. What a disaster and replicates my predictions over the last five years ScottMorrisonMP
Everything is not fine. Gas prices are rising sharply and factories are running low. Where is BorisJohnson ? I heard he went on holiday again ?
He would.
What exactly is he defending? The government hasn't done anything at all. The incompetents running the country seem to be running it straight into the ground. I don't think they have a clue what to do. Maybe a good place to start would be to scrap the pathetic green agenda.
“If the people cannot afford heat Let them holiday in Marbella”.
Indefensible if the levy on gas is true! If you need a green levy collect it from British Gas and the other suppliers! B Gas made £172 million profit in the first half of this year, They can afford far more than pensioners like me and most other consumers!
Hahahahahahahahahahahha
Well of course he did. He's hardly going to criticise his own government, is he?
even the nob dials on this machine have the expression 'dude why are gas prices so high!' LOL
Call me daft, but when the prices go up - who gets the extra bucks?
Shame on the government putting more ‘green’ taxes onto us.. climatecon
