Built by Wrightbus near Ballymena in Northern Ireland, the buses cost €800,000 each and will operate on Bus Éireann services between Dublin and Ratoath, Co Meath.
It cost the NTA €2.4 million to buy the three vehicles. There are only 4,200 hydrogen buses world-wide and very few are double-deckers like these. These buses will initially be supplied with highly pressurised green hydrogen produced by BOC Gases Ireland in its electrolyser at Bluebell on the Naas Road in Dublin.
It is working to introduce the necessary skills and infrastructure at its 17 depots to move from an entirely diesel-fuelled internal combustion engine fleet of 1,170 vehicles to one with a mix of zero and low emission buses. That is the equivalent to the emissions savings that would be made by taking 42 cars off the road for a year.
FFS😡
FineGael Hildergarde Naughton,Is this the Voodoo Economics you believe in ?
odd headline considering the heatwave across the world
Click bait article. Shameful 'journalism' . Any trial technology costs more at the start. You think that the first electric cars or buses were less than 3 times the cost of an ICE equivalent? And of course, no mention of the alternative carbon tax costs of ICE in there.
Meanwhile in Indian, everything is black from vehicle fumes.
Shocking to see such a waste of tax payers money
The cost on top of an already bloated DUBLIN BUS service beggars belief . I can understand why people in Rural Ireland get upset at their lack of services when you witness the scores and scores of near empty Dublin Bus fleet in the city centre daily.
Twice price of a normal bus and 3 times more expensive to fuel than a diesel bus. That what you get when you vote for greens. Clueless
As Blindboy would say, when it comes to anything like this announced by Irish politicians, how are they going to f””k this up? Well, one will prob be involved in a crash within the first few days ....
2.4million for three buses, 2million for a printer in Dáil Éireann that doesn’t fit, a childrens hospital costing 2billion and counting.Meanwhile we have a housing crisis, homeless crisis. Beggars belief.
There's too.much money I this country...all borrowed
How is the electricity generated which is used to produce the hydrogen? If it comes from the grid, its not green.
'I've got yer man Ryan on the phone from Dublin, you know the 'green one',he wants to know how much the buses are?........Just for a laugh I'll tell him 800,000 euro'
