We are going to need resilience, determination and solidarity as we embark on our next challenge as outlined in the Climate Bill passed by the Dáil late last Wednesday night, writes GeorgeLeeRTE

With Covid-19 hospitalisation trends improving by the day and the vaccination programme continuing apace, it certainly feels like the country is steadily heading back towards a more stable situation.

We are going to need all those attributes, and more, as we embark on our next challenge as outlined in the Climate Bill passed by the Dáil late last Wednesday night. When it is passed by the Seanad, which will be soon, and is subsequently signed into law by the President, it will set in train what can only be described as a 30-year revolution in the way we go about our daily business.

What we are being asked to do in this Climate Bill is to "believe". It is a call to get behind the national climate effort, to be prepared to embrace huge changes to our homes, our jobs, and every aspect of the way we live our lives. Yet the technology to do most of the things required to entirely eliminate net carbon emissions has not yet been invented.

This week, Climate Minister Eamon Ryan said not to worry, have faith. The Climate Action Bill will secure a better future for young people, it will deliver more investment, more jobs and better jobs, farmers will be better off, the air will be cleaner, biodiversity will be improved. We will help to protect ourselves from damages like flooding and storms that climate change will bring.

GeorgeLeeRTE It would be interesting to poll the population on whether they would have voted this bill into action. And a citizens assembly certainly doesn’t reflect the views of the nation. The unrealistic and economically disastrous goals will turn us into a green totalitarian state.

GeorgeLeeRTE Since we were locked down for a year, and the reduction in traffic, industry etc Where is our Fucking Carbon Credit Rebate?

GeorgeLeeRTE Your all so transparent Use fear to increase the power of the state and enrich yourselves while enabling you to play God and use said increase in power to transform society

GeorgeLeeRTE Resilience and solidarity are loaded terms after the year we've had. We've seen what they mean in reality.

GeorgeLeeRTE Bollocks. The man on the street can do nothing about climate change. It’s up to gov at an industrial level.

GeorgeLeeRTE We will need the media/RTÉ to up their game in terms of ensuring that those with expertise are given the opportunity to directly address the claims and misrepresentations from the vested interests Learn the lesson from Covid. Listen to the scientists, do what the science says

GeorgeLeeRTE Faith is not a strategy. We need a plan at this late stage.

GeorgeLeeRTE

GeorgeLeeRTE Only a handful of TD's voted against the climate bill that is a good start....All party support.. We have got to 419 ppm of CO2....Bending the curve won't be as easy as it was for covid....EU countries may manage 50% reduction by 2030....

GeorgeLeeRTE George 'The Grim Reaper' Lee arises.

GeorgeLeeRTE And plenty of taxes

GeorgeLeeRTE MichealMartinTD EamonRyan Can I ask why wave energy never seems to be on the agenda considering we are an Island and the power of the Atlantic, its always wind farms. What am I missing here?
