The Formula E racing series is on the fast track to business success:

“It’s a very exciting time—we’re accelerating toward the future,” said James Barclay, the team principal for Jaguar Racing. “It’s great knowing there is the investment in not just the team but the future of sustainable mobility.”

And while 2019 saw the racing series run a profit for the first time in its history—with revenues up 50% to more than 200 million euros over 2018,, and profit at around 1 million euros, buoyed by a 25% increase in sponsorship—the lack of fans in 2020 made a sizable dent in revenues, as it did with all forms of motorsports. With the number of vaccinations increasing in much of the world, executives at Formula E remain optimistic for the remainder of the 2021 season.

While attendance remains dependent on Covid-19 protocols in the various countries that the series holds races in, there was good news for U.S. fans when the remainder of the race schedule was released. Formula E will return to New York City after taking 2020 off with a doubleheader on July 10 and 11 that will be Rounds 10 and 11 of the 2020-21 season. This will mark the fourth year of the NYC E-Prix and the second doubleheader hosted on the streets of Red Hook, Brooklyn.

“We’re the global leader in fast-charging,” said Theodor Swedjemark, chief communications and sustainability officer for ABB. “When we joined Formula E in 2019, it was the first fully electric international motorsports class associated with the FIA. So we saw ABB aligned with the series as the perfect marriage of two organizations that share a common purpose of wanting to push and drive the excitement of electric vehicle mobility.
