Shadow Energy and Climate Change Minister Chris Bowen has criticised the prime minister for giving a “weak nod” towards net zero emissions.

Prime Minister Scott Morrison laid out his government’s roadmap to net zero emissions by 2050 in a speech to the Business Council of Australia on Monday night.

Mr Morrison said Australia will achieve net zero in its own way relying on technology and the “animal spirits of our business community” rather than through taxes. Mr Bowen said the prime minister’s speech was “not even a commitment” but rather a “weak nod” towards net zero. “He crab-walked in a weak and pathetic fashion towards net zero.”
