Jeff Immelt told CNBC on Monday the perception of his time as CEO of General Electric has been unfair and incomplete.

"I'm wholly unhappy about the narrative that has been created," Immelt said in an interview with CNBC's"I don't think it's been complete. I don't think it's been fair. And I think it's hurt a lot of people," Immelt said, while explaining why he wrote a book about his tenure leading the industrial giant. His book, "Hot Seat," is slated to be published Tuesday.

"All leadership is crisis leadership. And I think to a certain extent, this team, me, went through a lot together that others can learn from," he said. "I wanted to share that as well., the stock was already turning over, as the dot-com bubble of the 1990s burst and took the broader stock market lower as well. Immelt navigated GE through the aftermath of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks and the 2008 financial crisis.

Immelt came under fire by critics for poor leadership decisions as CEO that left GE cash-strapped. On his way out the door in 2017, Immelt found himself defending the company's practice of having an empty business jet follow his corporate plane on several trips around the world.

I had to laugh when Immelt said he's his toughest critic.

Because it is worse than teported?

Maybe he should have done a better job for the company?

JeffImmelt Terrible acquisitions, wasteful decisions like empty jets, and stock dropping 30% which ended with GE making no tax payments while being GIVEN $ by the fed reserve. You still didn’t figure it out. You should’ve been publicly fired years before they let you “retire.”

I'm wholly unhappy you did not do any jail time for what you did at GE! Your decision making was DISASTROUS and the accounting practices of the company were absolutely illegal. Anyone who buys this book should have their head examined...

I haven't read this, need to, but anyone coming along after Jack Welch left behind a pile of scrambled eggs likely has a very legitimate beef. Welch created an odd legacy.

'Dont judge me by my results' What a fool.

Tldr; - News channel publishes story about it's boss being unhappy with other news channels coverage of him.

What kind of story is this? You're going to publish every unhappy person who doesn't like a news story? OR is it because GE own NBC? FFS.
