TerraPower LLC, which Gates founded 14 years ago, and its partner GE Hitachi Nuclear Energy, plan to commercialize stations called Natrium in the United States later this decade, TerraPower’s President and Chief Executive Chris Levesque said.Levesque said the companies are seeking additional funding from private partners and the U.S.
Molten salt power storage has been used at thermal solar plants in the past, but leaks have plagued some of the projects. Gates, chairman of TerraPower’s board, said in a statement that Natrium innovation was “extremely difficult” but its team had “the expertise, commercial experience, and the resources necessary” to develop viable reactors.

Maybe its time we all live in tune with our planet, and accept that our energy should purely come from solar wind wave and hydro. As such there will be times days and weeks when energy isnt abundant and prioritised to utilities and industry. Need to use Domestic solar and storage

Sounds like a brilliant plan: use sodium as an energy storage. As soon as there's a problem with the heat exchanger the water will contact extremely hot sodium and the thing goes boom! Sodium would be at the bottom of my list of materials to consider.

There’s a huge NIMBY factor on nuclear energy. I don’t see it happening.
Too bad the USA won't try out these new designs, including those that use prior nuclear waste as the energy source, and those that by design don't need water pumped in to cool and don't those that don't suffer the need to enrich which creates weapons fears.
