Labor will not use 'scarce taxpayer money' to underwrite coal-fire power plants, according to Labor frontbencher Joel Fitzgibbon. TheKennyReport

Labor will not use "scarce taxpayer money" to underwrite coal-fire power plants, according to Labor frontbencher Joel Fitzgibbon. Coal has divided the Coalition party room, with a number of Nationals MPs urging the government to underwrite a new coal-fired power station in Queensland, which is the subject of a $4 million feasibility study.

However, moderate Liberals have argued against taking government energy policy in that direction. The comments come after Nationals backbencher Matt Canavan dubbed renewables the “dole bludgers” of the energy system. Speaking with Sky News host Chris Kenny, Mr Fitzgibbon said Labor will not use taxpayer money "to make something commercial when it is not commercial".

It's only scarce cos Gov't always lies about the truth and truth is they are raking in the $$ thru their various revenue scams,er,streams.Scarce taxpayer money? So where did all those hard-working taxpayers go AuspolSoCorrupt ?

No of course not they’re heavily inve$ted in forced unreliable costly energy for the ‘poor’ and no jobs in for children & grandchildren in Australia a consequence... No way are we being forced thanks. You pay for & use it yourself? Someone should ask the question in Parlt.

The Fossil Fuels Rent Seekers are already taking enough of our hard earned money. Money is scarce so let's stop giving Billions to Billionaires like Gina & Clive!? auspol

Wasn't Tony Abbot giving the mines a fat bankroll? This would be an about face.

So whats he going to waste it on then

Nationals should put in a candidate in Hunter who is pro coal. They would win the seat easily

Taxpayers money is only scarce when it’s ideologically convenient. Here’s an idea... how about we put a hold on overseas donations to pay for it... ya know do something for the taxpayers that will deliver a ROI 🤔

Nuclear hear and now.. Saves what day? Why can't the rest of Australia do what SA did with renewables and a battery - and enjoy lower electricity costs as well?
