Labor frontbencher Michelle Rowland has taken aim at the government’s decision to use a publicly funded feasibility study for political gain. Speaking to Sky News on Tuesday, the shadow communications minister repeated her party line that a Labor government would not allow public money to fund a new coal-fired power station.
The Morrison Government on the weekend announced it would commission a $4 million feasibility study into a proposed coal-fired power station in Queensland, a move Ms Rowland insisted was politically motivated. “The government has a political objective here, in seeking to gain support for what it’s doing, they’re choosing to do that with taxpayers’ money,” she said. However Ms Rowland said her party would not stand in the way of a project that met all the checks and balances.
