Senator Sherwin Gatchalian has urged the Department of Energy to use two energy-related laws to ensure there is an adequate supply of power in the upcoming summer months.

Gatchalian, chair of the Senate committee on energy, said the Energy Virtual One-Stop Shop Law and the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Law will greatly help the government ensure there is an ample supply of power in summer, when there is a higher demand for electricity.

The lawmaker made the call after the DOE warned that the country may experience yet another series of rotational brownouts in summer due to thinning power supply. Aside from the two laws, the lawmaker also urged the DOE to discuss with the public the outage schedule and reliability of plants to address any grid disturbances or avert future incidences of rotational brownouts in the country.

The law establishes an online platform where prospective developers can apply, monitor, and receive all the needed permits and applications, submit all documentary requirements, and pay for charges and fees.
