New ‘heavy commercial vehicle’ registrations saw an increase of 2.5% with 2,654 registered in 2019 compared to 2,590 in 2018. Earlier this week, Climate Action Minister Richard Bruton said motorists planning on buying new cars in 2020 “should reassess electric” and the government is expected to soon publish draft legislation banning the sale of petrol and diesel vehicles by 2030.

Bruton said the cost “might be dearer upfront” but the running cost over the car’s lifetime “compensates for much of that”. Related Read 30.12.19 Motorists 'should reassess electric' when buying new cars as laws banning petrol, diesel cars being drafted

There's not enough fast chargers, every petrol station in the country should have fast chargers. Nobody can wait 4-6hrs for a charge to get home!

Because electric isn't the answer

Don’t think the promo for charging stations would inspire much confidence. Bunch of 🤡s.

RichardbrutonTD positive incentives required to increase sale of EVs. Remove VRT and maybe offer businesses BIK at a greater rate. I will not be buying EV with the current gov policy. Unrealistic. Choice of cars is also poor. infrastructure affordability

There is no proper infrastructure for e cars. My car uses 30 to 40 euros a week. A truck delivering goods from Dublin to Cork return for example in one day uses 300euro in fuel, an older truck uses 500e return. Go away.

We are all doomed if more focus is not put on provision of better Public Transport. Trying to pander to our own selfish desires, and the car marketing industry (we don't make any today) won't work. I like my 30 year old van, If I had access to LRT in Galway I would use it less!

And RichardbrutonTD predicts 1 million electric cars by 2030.

Electric cars are shit that’s why

TOO DEAR TOO DEAR , NOT EFFICIENT OVERALL ,
