Razon-led Prime Energy Resources Development, the operator of Malampaya gas-to-power facility, on Thursday emphasized the need to further develop the country’s indigenous gas resources as this provides a cushion against external market shocks and ensures stable electricity supply. In a news release, Prime Energy managing director and general manager Donnabel Kuizon Cruz said indigenous liquefied natural gas “must remain a bedrock of our energy policy.

“Imagine what would have happened if this weather situation was a global situation and we couldn't even import LNG," she said. During strong winds and waves, the Prime Energy official said LNG floating storage and other facilities, carrying imported gas, “could be disconnected from their berths and pause the supply of gas to power plants.”Cruz pointed out the importance of “synergy” of imported LNG and indigenous gas to create power supply reliability and affordability.
