House Republicans have asked a government watchdog to investigate the oversight of mental health funding by federal officials. Documents obtained by the House Energy and Commerce Committee show that a significant portion of the $3.8 billion emergency funds intended for mental health initiatives during the pandemic has not been spent.
The committee has requested the Government Accountability Office to examine the reasons behind the slow spending and the ability of the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) to administer and oversee the funding
