Ford announced Thursday that it will offer the largest North American network of electric vehicle chargers of any automaker, including Tesla, once it offers electric vehicles.

THE CANADIAN PRESS/Sean KilpatrickFord doesn't currently offer any electric vehicles, but it announced Thursday that, once it does, it will offer the largest North American network of electric vehicle chargers of any automaker — including Tesla.

Next year, Ford will begin selling an electric crossover SUV with styling based on the Ford Mustang. It's the first vehicle Ford has ever offered that was designed, from the outset, as an electric vehicle. That vehicle has not been unveiled yet. AnThe FordPass network will include more than 12,000 charging stations with a total of 35,000 plugs in the United States and some parts of Canada.

Ford electric vehicle owners will be able to pay for charging through the app without having to subscribe separately to individual charging networks. Greenlots, a subsidiary of Shell, operates the software behind the app.its electric car charging network using money from a settlement that Volkswagen reached with US regulators over the automaker's. Other charging network operators are expected to join the network, a Greenlots spokeswoman said.

And Ontario’s Ford is on his way to dismantling whatever EV Chargers he can find.

Okay I have to ask since I am not an electric car owner, are these 'plugs' proprietary? That is, will a Tesla only charge in a Tesla charging station and so on? Are electric car owners about to be faced with the 21st century debacle of VHS vs Betamax or Blu-Ray vs HD-DVD?

You know, for a minute, I thought this might be Doug Ford and we'd have an answer as to what he's been up to for 5 months. I actually had a 'well, good work Mr. Ford' moment of positivity for our premier.

Not good enough, cars should be able to self-charge while driving reducing the number of charging stations. What is there to prevent someone passing by unplugging your car?
