Glen Powell in Twisters movie

This article is part of a directory: Twisters: Release Date, Cast, Story, Trailer & Everything We Know About The Twister Sequel PreviousHow Twisters Connects To The $495M Original Explained By Director:"A New Chapter" Summary Twisters director Lee Isaac Chung explains why the upcoming summer action movie won’t preach a message about climate change as an explanation for mega-tornadoes.

“I just wanted to make sure that with the movie, we don’t ever feel like it is putting forward any message. I just don’t feel like films are meant to be message-oriented. … I think what we are doing is showing the reality of what’s happening on the ground … we don’t shy away from saying that things are changing. I wanted to make sure that we are never creating a feeling that we’re preaching a message, because that’s certainly not what I think cinema should be about.

Avoiding potentially controversial messaging may have been a sound decision from a business standpoint, but it’s yet to be seen whether the move will actually enhance Twisters’ box office prospects. Tracking data sees the film taking in $45-$50 million domestically in its opening weekend, meaning it could have trouble making enough to justify its $200 million budget.
