Cross-border electric vehicle charging will soon become a reality in Southeast Asia thanks to a roaming collaboration agreement between two charge point operators (CPO), Malaysia’s ChargeSini and Singapore’s Charge+.

Cross-border electric vehicle charging will soon become a reality in Southeast Asia thanks to a roaming collaboration agreement between two charge point operators , Malaysia’s. The partnership allows ChargeSini app users to access Charge+’s network of around 2,000 chargers across Singapore, Thailand and other ASEAN countries.

This is on top of the 701 operational charging bays already operated by ChargeSini across 224 hubs in Peninsular and East Malaysia. The agreement is said to be in line with Charge+ goal of implementing a 5,000 km EV charging highway that spans Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam, claimed to be the longest in the region.

The deal is the latest in a series of roaming partnerships formed between Charge+ and several key players in the region, including the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand , Tenaga Nasional and Indonesia’s Perusahaan Listrik Negara . Charge+ says this will help address the issue of having to sign up with multiple charging apps by allowing users to access cross-border networks with just a single app.

“This roaming collaboration aligns with our mission to catalyse the proliferation of electric mobility in Southeast Asia, said Charge+ CEO Goh Chee Kiong. “The extension of our charging network through roaming will dispel the misperception that EVs are not suitable for long-distance, cross-border travel. We believe in creating a seamless access to more charging points, thereby contributing to the growth in the adoption of electric vehicles in the region.

ChargeSini CEO James Goh added: “I am both proud and ecstatic that Charge+ has chosen to partner with ChargeSini. Together, we can now connect more EV owners and users together through both our networks, thus allowing them to undertake stress-free cross-border travels with their EVs. Moreover, I am elated that users from both sides can now easily access any of our chargers through our existing apps too.
