A group of heating experts have debunked some of the biggest energy-saving myths, including one that you should actually never do to your radiators.

Painting your radiators black will save you money - myth While it is true that black attracts and absorbs heat, this is only accurate when the heat is generated through light, such as sunlight. However, following the Energy Price Cap tariffs, it’s more likely that this hack won’t save any money for the average household.

Tinfoil behind the radiator can keep the heat in - true but not efficient The idea behind this is that tin foil behind the radiator will stop heat from absorbing into the wall behind it. James Hwang from Studio added: "As a winter of colder nights and increased energy bills approaches, trying out any old energy-saving hack on the internet can be tempting.
