Electric bike rider dies after being hit by car on busy N.J. highway, police say

An electric bike rider died Wednesday morning after colliding with a car on a busy Toms River highway, police said.

A 33-year-old Little Egg Harbor man was riding west in the westbound shoulder of Route 37 east shortly before 8 a.m. when he made a sudden left turn into traffic and was struck by a car in the center lane of the highway, according to a statement from the Toms River Police Department. The driver of the car stayed on the scene and the bicyclist was taken to Community Medical Center in Toms River where he died, authorities said.Our journalism needs your support.
