Ofgem will lower the energy price cap from October 1 by £151 from the current £2,074 per year to £1,923 for millions of households across Scotland, England and Wales. The slight drop will benefit households on a standard tariff with typical usage, however, it’s important to remember that the price cap doesn’t relate to a cap on the amount of money people will pay for using gas or electricity.
The energy regulator also recently warned that it is unlikely for prices to return to the levels seen before the energy crisis began. Top Money Stories Today Hazel Knowles, energy project team lead for Advice Direct Scotland, said: “Even with the warmer weather and energy prices starting to move in the right direction, we know many people are struggling. Bills will still be almost double the amount they were before the energy crisis began, which will be unaffordable for many households.
