Good news for Electric Picnic goers in first weather forecast ahead of festival

There is good news so far for Electric Picnic goers in the first weather forecast ahead of the annual festival next weekend.

Alan O'Reilly of Carlow Weather explained that early arrivals on Thursday are in for an uncertain night but there are sunny spells to follow with little rain on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. He said: "So a week out and the weather models are looking fairly decent. Still some uncertainty and for those heading in Thursday a risk of some rain but in general the weather model trends show very little rain expected at present over the 3 days."It can still go pear shaped so don’t bet on this forecast yet.

Met.ie said: "Rain over the eastern half of the country with drier weather in the west today, some sunshine this evening. Highest temperatures of 16 to 19 degrees in light to moderate westerly winds, veering northwesterly and freshening later.
