Analysis: Compelling car makers to sell a specific percentage of EVs has been proven to work not just in places like California but right here in Canada.

Futuristic design for an electric vehicle charging station by Toronto architect Sean Solowski for a competition run by Canadian start-up Electric Autonomy.

Now, some advocates think the transition away from fossil-fueled cars will accelerate with the federal government's proposed zero-emission vehicle sales mandate.

Yes the media loves ev but cold weather is problem no one talk about

Might be why California has rolling blackouts

Analysis Omg 😳 CBC 🙄 Trudeau funded reporting is sooo obvious

Just polluting differently! 🤦🏻‍♀️

What source are you using to get your information? It isnt proven % EVs on roads? Are there charging stations along every highway? EVs still do not have the range of a gasoline or hybrid vehicles. Vehicle buyers still want options as in a choice between gas, hybrid or electric.

What? Lol. Any left leaning policy or idea is defended and touted no matter what by the biased media.

Just lower the price...

What a crock of shit, what’s the coldest day in California 0-6 degrees its rear to even see snow in California, how far do you think your going get with temperatures at -20 to 30 I can’t imagine driving across the prairies you freeze to death and side of the road. EV WON’T WORK

Gotta phase it in, first mandate all passenger vehicles be hybrid drive, that's like a 40% reduction in fuel demand right there

It's surely must only be city slickers that are praising EVs. Infrastructure for EVs is not around anywhere for rural Canadians, especially in more Northern or isolated areas. How much do you think we'll have to pay to charge in the future?

EVs are cheap to recharge ($6-9), 4 times as efficient (achieve 100+ MPGe) & need min maintenance. You'll save $10-15k on fuel & repairs over 5 yrs. They're fun to drive with instant high torque. Also great in the winter, heat comes on instantly, no waiting for engine to warm up.

Only a very small selected and privileged group of people can afford a 45k EV.

Propaganda tweet of the week award. And it’s only Monday….

Good luck. Was looking at an EV and told there was a 4 year waiting list, they wouldn’t even take a name. Ha ha.

You mean we can actually legislate the change we want instead of waiting for magical 'market forces' to do it? What a novel idea.

Still a few issues with EVs, longevity of the battery and limited range, Canada is big country and most motorists especially boomers want the range and availability of IC vehicles to go where they want when they want. Maybe around 2050 EVs will replace IC vehicles.

but can we compell people to buy EVs after Ford scrapped the renewable energy rebate?

Not everyone can afford an EV and they don't function well in the cold winters. Looks like carbon taxing with make more people poorer while the elite get all the breaks and advantages! It's just unfair and wrong on so many levels.

No talk about why the built form in 2022 is so car centric in the urban areas. Car ownership per household in my area is up not down, even with free transit to the Go train, nobody wants to use the inefficient slow buses. Subdivisions still built in the GTA with no walkability.

So everything I read show EV’s are less expensive than ICE vehicles because gas and maintenance costs. Gas taxes provide infrastructure needed and currently EV’s are getting a free ride. This will end as EV’s get popular therefore increasing cost to operate.

What does 'work' mean ?

So wasteful that such expensive assets sit unused such a high % of the time. Can't wait for self driving.

Even in California, land of warmth, eco, sunshine, & expensive gas by US standards, buyers of EVs are rejecting them. 20% are saying they're switching back to gas. Canada, land of -30C and very few charging stations? EV's ranges will be severely limited.

Pushing that Liberal-NDP narrative. 👍🏻🤡

A dose of reality for all you zealots, will any of it come from Canadian resources? Doubtful, our current govt wants noth8ng to do with its own countries prosperity. Just tax us into submission

They work in urban centers -- Canada however is a very big country, and cold at times too. They do have a place however like everything they are not a solution for everyone. The other piece that needs to need to substantively revamp urban electrical infrastructure.

Overall reduction in vehicle number and size/weight beats shift to electric only. Better public transport and more walkable communities are vital.

Government Interfering with market forces never works. Ever. California is not Canada. It’s warm and LA isn’t Toronto, or Montréal or Regina. Lefty pipe dreams. cdnpoli
