As Borno faces a deepening climate crisis, the state’s Climate Change Coalition, a broad partnership chaired by the State’s

Ministry of Environment has completed an action plan, which outlined strategies to combat the growing scourge of climate change.

The estimated total emissions reduction through implementing of the plan is approximately 1,041,000 tons of Carbon Dioxide equivalents yearly. This represents about 1.5 per cent of Nigeria’s total voluntary emissions reduction target by 2030. MEANWHILE, the plan was recently presented to Borno State Governor, Prof Babagana Zulum by the State’s Commissioner for Environment, Mohammed Koi, who noted that it will reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and enhance adaptive capacities in the state, adding “our focus will be on sustainable land management, climate-resilient agriculture, and the promotion of green infrastructure.”
