While the best bits of Nash's first album in six years are a joy, elsewhere it is energy-draining and inconsistentAmid a deluge of leather-jacketed rockers and miscreants in pork-pie hats, singer-songwriter Kate Nash brought wit and colour to British pop in its landfill indie era. Her 2007 hit “Foundations” was Tori Amos-sound-tracking, Nash was still developing as a songwriter.

The obvious difference is that Nash is now in her mid-30s: she’s seen a few things – heartbreak, career woes, financial instabilityHer voice still has that gorgeous babbling brook quality, and on blistering piano-driven opener “Millions of Heartbeats”, she recalls losing her creative drive during the darkest days of the lockdown.
