Plans for a smaller Radlett Green Belt solar farm have been withdrawn by a renewable energy developer.

Plans for a larger solar farm that could have powered 15,600 family homes were blocked by the government in April.Plans for a large solar farm outside Watford could be scrapped after an even bigger scheme was blocked by the government. It is not currently clear if the developer intends to resubmit the plans in future. Enso Energy was contacted for comment.

Enso had lodged two similar applications for the same site which would have seen thousands of solar panels, battery storage and underground cables built on two Green Belt sites, one north west of the Elstree Aerodrome and another west of the A5183 Watling Street. The larger scheme had been at the appeal stage since late 2022 before it was finally shot down by the Planning Inspectorate on April 8. Now the second similar but slightly smaller application has officially been withdrawn.

The smaller scheme received 980 comments on borough council planning portal, of which there were 948 objections and 12 in support. We want our comments to be a lively and valuable part of our community - a place where readers can debate and engage with the most important local issues.
