Data centres in Ireland consumed 18% of the country's electricity in 2022, which is as much as all urban homes combined. This makes Ireland an outlier in terms of energy consumption. The Extinction Rebellion Ireland protested outside the Data Centres Ireland Exhibition and Conference in Dublin. The increasing energy consumption, especially due to activities like cryptocurrency transactions, indicates that humanity's energy consumption habits are not decreasing.
