Energy customers with British Gas, EDF, E.On and others including Shell and Octopus will be handed a £238 boost from Monday on average.
It's meant customers of all the major suppliers have been forking out as much as 100% more than they were the year before, as prices climbed to heights of 36p per unit of electricity from 18p just a couple of years ago.But there is a lightbulb at the end of the tunnel because from Monday, April 1, energy price regulator Ofgem has announced a cut to energy bills for all major suppliers thanks to the price cap being reduced.
From Monday, the price cap is being reduced from an average of £1,928 per year to £1,690 per year, which will result in a £238 saving for energy customers on average. Ofgem announced: "From 1 April to 30 June 2024 the price for energy a typical household who use electricity and gas and pay by Direct Debit will go down to £1,690 per year. This is £238 per year lower than the price cap set between 1 January to 31 March 2024 ."
