Justin Trudeau has narrowly won a second term as Canada’s prime minister, though his party did not retain its majority in government and will need to depend on other parties to govern.

“Canadians rejected division and negativity,” Trudeau said in an address following his victory.

“They rejected cuts and austerity, and they voted in favour of a progressive agenda and strong action on climate change.” CHEK News reporter Tess Van Straaten said Trudeau’s victory was surprising given “all of the issues that came up” with the prime minister during the campaign. Image: AP
