Climate change and disaster have come to Texas. We must think about the future of energy differently.

The only thing left standing in the Rico family home in Valley View, Texas, was the staircase. The tornado destroyed the mobile home on Saturday, May 25, 2024. Its four inhabitants, Jose Rico, Deyanira Espindola, Kristal and Yvette Rico, were injured but survived.

It is not alarmist to state what should be clear: Human societies must work toward developing and implementing power sources that rely less on burning fossil fuels. The state of Texas has done important work in this area for years.These forms of energy are excellent and deserve to be subsidized to foster their development. Their drawback is obvious, though. They don’t work when the wind doesn’t blow and the sun doesn’t shine.
