An application to have the case admitted to the Commercial Court on Monday was adjourned to later this week after Michael Cush SC, for Vermilion, said there had been a “new development in Belgium” concerning this matter. In an affidavit seeking entry to the list, Jarlath Trench, managing director of Vermilion Exploration and Production, said as a result of the Irish law, Vermilion has been exposed to solidarity contribution liabilities that are contrary to law.Vermilion operates the State’s only gasfield which has been developed at a cost of €3.6 billion and currently provides 19 per cent of the State’s gas requirements.
