As the temperature drops and millions of households turn on their heating for the first time in months, attention turns to energy bills. A typical duel-fuel household will pay £1,923 a year between this October and next December.
Despite this, there are still certain allowances and payments you can claim in order to bring your energy bills down if you're struggling. To help with upcoming bills, there is the Warm Home Discount, Cold Weather Payment and Winter Fuel Payment. Warm Home Discount - up to £150 The Government states: "You could get £150 off your electricity bill for winter 2023 to 2024 under the Warm Home Discount Scheme. The money is not paid to you - it’s a one-off discount applied to your electricity bill between early October 2023 and 31 March 2024." You'll usually get the discount automatically if you're eligible. But if you're in Scotland, you will need to apply here.
Winter Fuel Payment - between £250 and £600 This only applies to those born before September 25, 1957. If this applies to you, you could get between £250 and £600 to help with paying heating bills. This is known as a Winter Fuel Payment .
