Every day, Americans donate their time, skills and energy to their communities by volunteering with nonprofit organizations. The Associated Press interviewed five volunteers about what motivated them to get involved and why they think more people don’t give their time.

For a decade + I’ve volunteered at a local performing arts center. As a science person with no art ability it’s my way of contributing to the arts. As to barriers for volunteering, time of day. The art center is open at night so I can easily volunteer without giving up a weekend.
We're in big trouble. We have worse problems and less services and more crowding at the top. truth fact
