The chief executives of Australia’s three biggest mining companies have used their first visit to China in three years to praise the country’s post-pandemic recovery that will continue to drive demand for commodities as they pledged to work closely with Beijing to tackle climate change.
“With a population of over 1.4 billion, China’s economic transformation and modernisation is occurring at an unprecedented scale,” Mr Henry was quoted as saying in a video message to the China Development Forum in Beijing. The presence of Australian corporate heavyweights at the forum, hosted by China’s Foreign Minister Qin Gang, is a sign ofbetween Canberra and Beijing despite friction on security issues such as the AUKUS submarine deal.
Apple chief executive Tim Cook was one of the more prominent Americans attending the forum, where he praised China for its rapid development and historic ties with the iPhone maker.
