'Proud to be a Nimby' Residents divided on onshore wind

'Proud to be a Nimby': Onshore wind divides East YorkshireMike Padgett opposes any more wind turbines in his village of Sancton in East Yorkshire. But Ellis Jacklin, who's from nearby Market Weighton, disagrees. He benefits from a discount of between 20% and 50% on his electricity bill - depending on how fast his local turbine is moving.

The government is consulting on proposals to end an effective ban on new onshore wind turbines in England, in places where local residents are supportive.

FFS hurry up and get in the ground

Forget intrusive Windmills that can’t work if too much wind & wont work if no wind We are an island use the tide the waves Tidal Power is 24/7/365 safe Green Energy Build a Severn Barrage on 2nd highest tidal flow in the world going to waste

Gosh what ever will we do about them putting wind farms in that beautiful ecologically barren farmers field. I could understand his point of view if they were going to be destroying some sort of natural landscape, or he was saying the fields should be rewilded.

Convert old coal and gas plants to nuclear

Imagine having to explain to your grandkids that they can't have renewable energy because you didn't want your view from the garden spoiled.

Land based wind turbines are the least reliable for their output. Sea based ones more frequently get some wind.

The smart ones will understand that each and be takes 60 gallons of crude oil to run each year .. they are buried in a trench when finished with because they cannot be recycled .. it’s a scam much like the BBC swamp .. FactsMatter ScumMedia 🐸

Good on them for doing what's best for their local community!

Points out the wind turbines that are blocking his view of the electricity pylons and tells us it ruins the landscape. I'd quite like one in my backyard. Let's say, £100 a week for access and free electricity? Done!

And the conservatives elites wonder why their house building promises will never work. Right wing NIMBY’s

NIMBYs...🤦

I can see them from the coast not far from me, they don’t spoil the view and they serve a purpose for now until a better technology replaces them

It’s the noise they creat that gets on my nerves, out in the ocean there’s a more consistent wind, higher installation and maintenance cost though. But one must consider people first I think.

Leaving this here

Love the guy complaining that it ruining / could ruin the view. The view appears to include multiple pylons and poles, some taller than the wind turbines.

Why am I not surprised it’s an old white guy whining about them

NIMBYism is exactly why this country is in the mess it’s in. Can’t build houses, can’t build railways, can’t build onshore wind, can’t build anything

Don’t want it.

Seems like they'd prefer smog, blackouts, gas shortages and further increased energy prices. 🤷‍♂️

We’ve got some near us (albeit not in view). However, I can’t see what the problem is.
