Technology billionaire Bill Gates said nuclear power should be considered in Australia, but the Albanese government has stood by its line that it’s too expensive to be part of the energy mix.

, saying it is too expensive to be part of a solution to help Australia reach net zero by 2050.

“The same GenCost report shows firmed renewables, with transmission and storage, are the cheapest form of energy, and getting cheaper every day. That’s why the Albanese government has made huge investments in renewable energy, like Marinus Link in Tasmania and VNI West Link in Victoria.“These projects will open up Australia’s renewable energy capacity and unleash the investment for jobs and renewable energy, while putting downward pressure on power prices.

Mr Scarce, who was a commander in the Royal Australian Navy in the 1990s and chancellor of the University of Adelaide from 2014 to 2020, said wariness by politicians of a public outcry by anti-nuclear campaigners prevented a clinical examination of whether small-scale nuclear reactors could help in the energy transition.

Australia needs cheap reliable nuclear power
