The electric cars in this photograph were abandoned in China, not France. Further, the vehicles were abandoned by an electric car-sharing company because of a lack of customer demand. There's no indication the matter had anything to do with battery costs.

The cars in the picture belonged to an electric car-sharing company that was named Microcity. Thousands of their Kandi-brand vehicles hit the streets in 2013. However, The Observers reported that there wasn’t enough demand for their business. The company went bankrupt in 2019. There’s no data to show that EV battery replacement costs had anything to do with the reason the cars were abandoned.

Why dump them? Give them to a charity or org to provide rides for seniors, medical appointment, low income families, abused women..why let them rot and destroy the land they sit on..that is the worst part.

Funny thing is France is experiencing a huge gas crisis from the Refinery workers striking, can’t find gas in a lot of places. EVs are thriving. Should have done their research if they were gonna push a false story.

My only question is, how the hell were these cars parked there? Giant crane? 👽

Were the batteries removed? Lithium mine?

Wow! It's still a tremendous waste, though, especially since electric car batteries are almost impossible to recycle.

Lmaooo. The left have to fact check anything that might touch on their agenda.

Electric cars are the new plastic. Almost impossible to recycle cheaply.☹️

Snopes is posting mostly lies again, these are from France:

I will never believe anything Snopes has to say after all the misinformation they spread during covid

except this will be a future photo as battery replacement as we speak is $30,000. Just wait when we run out of precious metals to make them in the future. The future is NOT in EVs.

Send to developing countries to keep pollution down.

But it does show a large amount of abandoned vehicles that are now seemingly undriveable. Wherever it is its a massive waste of resources.

That’s still not a good thing tho, massive waste of resources

What it does show is horrid waste. China is well known for grandiose projects that have little backing or demand to begin with. Just look at their construction sector. Thousands of abandoned tower blocks and dozens of ghost cities.

这不是纯电动微公交吗?

We might as well go hard AF and go back to this…

GodessofChaos71 Wherever it is, it is sad to see such waste.

They ARE electric cars. The motors are virtually eternal. That they were abandoned rather than replace the expensive batteries is a very reasonable hypothesis

man dies of starvation ... no indication the matter had anything to do w a lack of nutritional intake.

Love the skirt around the answer to stay true to the narratives. Snopes confirming once again what we already know.

LOL, that's even worse

Snopes .. reliable left wing dribble .. opinions

Snopes? Really? Please!!! I wouldn't believe them if they told me their grandma was dead, dug her up and did a DNA test on her. They are known to cover for lies.

But...still...abandoned EVs due to some reason you 'news agencies' didn't find out? Sorry your journalism is so bad I can't trust you.

So they are electric cars, but you’re focusing on the location of the cars, which is irrelevant. You say later there was no demand for the cars, and “no evidence” that it is related to batteries. Oooh Kay.

Lets see. I get angry now with a $300 battery. Imagine a $15K battery replacement. Not happening

What a waste!!!!

The point is not so much where they are from, but that they’re abandoned.

Perhaps, but this is definitely a glimpse at the possible future for electric cars. Imagine every 100,000 miles for a gasoline car you had to buy a brand new $8,000 engine for it? Yeah this is a big big problem headed our way

Because of China's insane Zero Covid P{olicy, products have been kept off the market as supply and shipping shuttered. Artifically destroying supply has increased prices. Money printing debt to pay old debt, not made it into circulation. Instead destroy supply to keep prices up!

说谎不打草稿,你家电动车交警给挂蓝牌

Now EVs can be made to last Toyota did it right with their hybrids and the first generation EVs which have been shown to work after 200K miles and even be able to be brought back after setting for years.

Problem is the country for whom these cars were built never bought them in the end which country would it be definitely not China

这是燃油车!青色的牌照是电动车

Fact Check the Fact Checker’s Check: that photo was taken in California. They were in line waiting to charge during a brown out.

There's already rust on the roofs of some of them which says something about the quality of the construction.

Just because the dude lives in China doesn’t mean this photo was taken in China. He has photos from all over the world on his profile.

Lack of demand? Not enough people in China? Or not enough people can afford electric cars?

Perhaps they had an issue with recycling costs?

give them to Cambodia as a gift..

Snopes is liberal propaganda and nothing but that!

Lol imagine thinking this doesn’t still make the same point.

It doesn’t matter where they were abandoned. It’s a FACT, not a MYTH that replacing the batteries on these cars is not economical or feasible for the average person. They are a waste of time and effort

Nobody wants those stupid, ugly little death traps.

Still doesnt take from the fact that these environmentally friendly cars are a complete and flat out lie! nature loves it when you just leave metal and batteries in the middle of it. jackass

Snopes said it so there’s nothing else to be said.

Well if we all drive electric vehicles, we then see fields of abandoned petrol and diesel vehicles, so how are we going to get rid of the gas guzzlers. So this is a picture of the future of thousands of vehicles that can't be recycled. We should stop making new vehicles.

Still doesn't matter where it is!! What a waste!!

Bullshit story, all lies

I disagree. If the company went out of business, they still would’ve sold the cars or scraped them to recover costs. The only reason they would leave them like this is if they were worthless, which more than likely means they needed new batteries, which are too expensive.

DavidWolfe should be sued like Alex Jones.

Can it be converted to a vehicles that uses petrol? then it can be if use to the citizens and even exported to other countries. I live in Nigeria and won’t mind having one 😊

The confirmation was because the photo owner currently lives in China? He could have taken the photo when he went to France.

I can’t believe the right shares misinformation and lies to support their weak points. I’m totally blown away.

Tragically lame news

Snopes has a great reputation

Way to come to the rescue of a leftist folly. Abandoned. Electric vehicles. 'No indication that it had anything to do with battery costs'. But do you have any indication that it is NOT related to the battery costs? Or that no one wants the EV's?

If we were committed to electric vehicles : The first thing we would see is a return to a unibody frame. Standardized parts and top tier quality control. We would have seen the ev taurus , the ev accord , the ev lexus and all of them would have standardized batteries.

EV cult viciously attacking even the most innocuous photos.

The picture might not be from France . But there are trees growing between the vehicles they are clearly abandoned !

who still believes snopes?

I agree with you. On another note, this is the best idea they had? Wad them up? Cars, like houses, that sit empty (abandoned) go down super fast. Doesn't China have some type of incentive to do with them? Donate them and write it off? Parts? Cos that's simply a junkyard.

The Apple car

The global green new deal lol working out real well 🤡👍

Electric vehicles abandoned in China… For all the drooling seals repeating a snopes “fact check” about the rideshare company: So they were an asset that had ZERO value and couldn’t be sold/liquidated to pay off debt to keep a company from bankruptcy? Not even scrap metal? LOL

Could lack of customer demand be related to battery costs?

PeterAbbey050

So they were useless. Your point ? Batteries are insane expensive. Cmon now. We know how to think

In denial. Cost of battery will definitely soar. It's like buying a new petrol car.

Are you sure this isn't the parking lot of Wrigleyville Dogs?

elonmusk

Good reporting

They all look awful anyway don’t want any free even🤣

'Nor Were They Abandoned Due to Battery Replacement Costs' No, you didn't fact check that at all. You just said 'we didn't find any information.' To claim that you have definitively disproven a claim because you haven't found any information to support it is simply not true.

The ideograms on the doors certainly aren't French.

There grass growing around them 😳

Stick lawnmower engines in them

Spin it snopes, you liars. Does it really matter where or why no one wanted those electric cars that are now polluting the shit out of the planet you claim to care about? You guys are hypocrites. Why don’t you just change your name from snopes to DemocratPropoganda

What a waste of technology. They should be taken and given away. There is less risk of pollution if they are in use. Coal powered electric cars

you still getting paid by soros, snopes?

Not matter which photo was used. The logo on the cars shows that they come from 'Autolib', a fleet of electric car-sharing program in Paris in 2011 and had 150,000 active users who could take the cars when needed. Fact. They stoped program. So it is problem in France too.

'Snopes, the internets definitive fact checking resource' What utter shite.

Wow. How does it matter where the photo was taken, the fact remains that demand is not as high as you'd like. And the battery replacement costs price out the average driver. It being in China rather than France makes a difference how exactly? Chinese citizens different or sth?

So the company failed because the batteries were too expensive to replace, right?

I don't care where they are, dumping that many cars is bloody criminal. What a waste.

so how much on average is an electric cars battery and what enviromental impact does producing them have? remember facts and truth only as twitter will call you out !

if thers nethng tht cms out tht reveals the green agenda or th cov hoax or the non binary agnda 2 b wht it is a scam then these fact chckrs r out in force to staunchly reject it,how can ne1 trust them when thy r pushn an agenda? they r not indpndnt whch is why they cant be trstd!

So they ARE abandoned and no one wants them? Just checking because you're great ones for 'debunking' an entire story because one aspect may not be the case.

thanks for clearin it up

Lack of customer demand because of insane battery replacement costs. Lmao

georainbolt can we get a real fact check?

Sure but it shows you that electric cars aren’t what people want.

True 'There's no indication the matter had anything to do with battery costs.' But they are now 10 years old and should have been sold on if they were worth anything...

so instead of selling them for $5 each they just dumped them come on just admit it the EV cars are either shit batteries or catching on fire!

Actually, I want to tell you the truth. These cars are produced by automobile manufacturers to cheat government subsidies. Their cost is very low, These are very low-end electric vehicles, which are very different from those being used in China now.😂

Now do this one:

I would neva Eva buy an electric car just fyi….

Nobody believes snopes anyways… Liars

The company went out of business because they couldn’t afford to keep the cars on the road due to maintenance costs! Which did include replacement batteries! How can we report you for misinformation?

If you care about this, get a job

SLAP SCATPACK/HELLCAT MOTORS IN THEM THANGS!

It doesn't matter what country it's located in, there's still a shit ton of EVs abandoned in a field cuz NO ONE WANTS THEM!!

This is probably why Startups must first establish a solid demand based in the form of paying customers before attempting to scale. Imagine the amount of funding that went down the drain here.

I mean, this photo is like a year old... Lack of demands due to economy down shift in China and Covid lockdowns...

Maybe they’re VWs. Similar lot in Colorado. VW bought them back after misrepresenting their gas mileage. VWs are parked more tidily.

asemota Happy battery cost

these ones are though

🤨

Who cares, this is like a small dealership worth of cars

As if the location was the important aspect.

Piece of advise whatever the fact Checkers say believe the opposite. BTW the batteries for electric vehicles ARE VERY EXPENSIVE. Also where do the green cult members on disposing the batteries, no where because the batteries are a huge environmental problem.

China is the symbol of egregious wastefulness. I am ashamed.

Does it make a difference? Lack of interest, cost of vehicle, cost of replacement batteries. The fact remains the same, the company went out of business because they couldn't sell enough electric cars? lol. Isn't the outcome/issue the same?

Considering the meme was shared by David Wolfe, who is well known for spreading misinformation and BS, I'm not even remotely shocked it was miscaptioned.

He looks like an abandoned Johnny Depp from Wish.

so fucking care about china right? none of you have even been there. compare to what has been wasted in western, the waste in china is nothing

wait you said you could nto get ahold of Kandi to find out why they went out of business, now youre saying you know why they were abandoned?

Probably because no one wants a communist made vehicle they are so cheaply made they break down.

Cut to feel-good flick where ragtag group of American down-n-outers restore junked WWII cargo plane and hatch plan to steal 'all that good scrap metal' to save the farm. Operation Dumbo Drop meets Hell or High Water. Or The Astronaut Farmer meets Ocean's 11.

Its not the battery cost. Its the size. The car is built or used to be built around the battery. It was just easier to replace the car than the battery.

because the lack of customer demand was replacing the battery. there is nothing wrong about this photo

I can read, and the photographer just stated he is currently residing in China, has no proof the picture was taken there.. But on the contrary why are you painting an illusion that its false when your clearly have no clue? Thats disturbing more than any originating propaganda

You’re EV bias is showing. So this will be the new topic you’ll be manicuring and manipulating in order to bury any anti-EV sentiments?

Glass houses. Just sayin.

AGreenRoad Dear Children? I'm from California where GavinNewsom lost 1.5 billion (that we know of) on exploding transit from China. The same Company he used when investing in masks from China.

no

But facts remain the same. It is very costly to replace EV batteries, sometimes more expensive than just buying a new one. Fact check that snopes.

The only thing 'going green' there is the grass and trees growing around the cars.

So, capitalism...

Uhm, but, France or no, it’s still an indictment of electric cars (as was footage of dozens of them catching fire in Florida last week post-Hurricane Ian because, imagine that, salt water causes the car batteries to ignite). PlanetSavingClusterF

A guy named Greg Abandoned too the photos of the abandoned cars? That is a crazy! They look like they could be electric cars. They are abandoned. Does it matter where they physically sit?

What we are doing to young people is absolutely unforgivable. UN warns Earth ‘firmly on track toward an unlivable planet’

Kind of a twisted irony then

Any abandoned car, what a waste. Let the people have a go at some bumper cars with real cars for once.

And yet they are still so valuable that they are abandoned.

Snopes always goes with the democrat narrative explanation. I'm sure they'll whitewash old joe's lie about his son dying in Iraq.

Doesnt answer why make so many when demand isnt there, why they are not being sold or used elsewhere 2 reduce carbon emissions? Why they r not being recycled.Wasteful! & u wonder why we dont deserve this planet? We value $ over logic. ElectricVehicles $ over any positive change

So scrap them recover the lithium. Meanwhile they just rot away.

Snopes…. The kind of fact checkers that scour the internet for real information. 🙄

It's nice to hire a car to drive for yourself but some people would rather hire a driver along with that car.

just left there, what a site

Toss in a 12v battery and some gas and drive them out of there! Oh wait, no these are electric cars..so the batteries are fkd and would cost more than the actual car is worth.

'There's no indication the matter had anything to do with battery costs.' Not yet anyway, let them sit unmaintained, they will be toxic waste.

Still abandoned..

Lack of interest in electric cars go figure

But snopes lies all the time, how do they turn into fact checkers? Clowns.

Absolute nonsense- demands gone thru the roof for electric cars in China largest growing market for them in the world- another fake news!

The confusion is understandable, given the similarities between the picture in question and the pictures of a yard in France of electric rideshare cars belonging to a different failed rideshare company.

Maybe they'll grow into battery trees! Delicious baby car seeds!

cars

France, China, same thing. FukFactCheckers

oh look a bootlicker

They were abandoned. That’s the point, so thank you for being anti-woke.

Go to Youtube and watch videos of Chinese drivers. People prefer midsize vehicles, not these tuna cans. Signs, lights, crosswalks, brakes are optional in China.

There's a giant VOLKSWAGON or AUDI graveyard between Colorado Springs, CO and Pueblo, CO, right along the highway. Literally hundreds of cars laying there for some reason or another. It's not the end of the world. Cars need a place to go to die too

Heyyyo Snope-a-dope, were the EV Batteries able to be refurbished/reused elsewhere? EVGraveyardTours

Sounds like corporations are putting out fake propaganda in order to safe their obscene profits. Just like tobacco companies did!

There are several of these and the cars have their yearly inspection stickers kept up. Companies buy them as taxis with tax credits for being an EV then, use those cars as collateral on loans to buy more cars and continue the grift.

The reason people keep pushing misinformation is because there is an innumerable number of uneducated conspiracy theorists out there. I never knew just how many until Trump and the pandemic happened.

Tesla should salvage the parts.🤔

The rear number plates are blue. Therefore these cars are not from France, as the law there requires that they be white, front and rear.

Electric cars are nonsense, but I hate people willing to be this ignorant about what they're seeing to peddle anti-electric. You have so many more examples as to why going electric across the board right now is a bad idea.

So basically TRUE. CRAP EV CARS!

Nobody cares

Ok but why were they abandoned?

Oh my god the place that produces all the products has a lot of unused products.

there was a thing I seen years ago this and it did give the above Facts and that original story. Found a clip

Such a waste! I would have taken one

Okay cool it's an ecological disaster in China instead of France, that makes it so much better for the Earth. 🤦

the electric cars were abandoned but not because electric cars suck sure bro

i've seen this in an emkay video

What a horrible waste - i can't help but think of the individuals who could have benefited from a car if they didn't own one or if their's wasn't reliable.
