Why building batteries in Europe is “a little bit like managing Formula One.” We speak to Northvolt CEO Peter Carlsson on this week’s “Money Talks”

for a ban on sales of petrol and diesel cars by 2035. Japan and others are also aiming for a ban by 2035. But government efforts to encourage consumers to switch to buying electric cars could run into the reality that there isn’t yet enough capacity to manufacture the batteries necessary to power all those cars.EV boom could go bust

before it gets going. They’re joined by our industry editor Simon Wright who lays out the challenges battery manufacturers face in getting raw materials. Then, Peter Carlsson, the chief executive of European battery manufacturer Northvolt, outlines the challenges his firm faced in building a gigafactory in Sweden. Finally, Ford’s vice-president of sustainability Bob Holycross explains why the carmaker sees the switch to EVs as a refounding of the company.

northvolt Electric vehicles have a bright future and huge development space, its wise to rush to occupy the market. But there is an even more important issue, the recycling investments of batteries. Even the representatives of this sector are still unknown

Honest and trustworthy expert trader that made me smile for the very first time in my life, after encountering lot of scams online, I thought it was fake but when I gave it a try I then realise that is real so I won’t keep silent I need everyone to see the joy in me Lisa_Mia_T0.

This is at the same time they're telling us to turn our air conditioners off in 102 degree weather. If there's not enough electricity, electric cars will not be very popular.

They have droughts, outages, and soon, they won't have roads.

You cannot switch to all EV without stable power source. Nuclear or strip mine most of third world for battery storage for sustainable wind/solar. False choice.

The switch already happened and around 2030 you will see no more new ICE cars. The EVs will be used to strengthen the grid soon.

And they just warned people against charging vehicles because of the stress on the power grid....🤡

For the last week Californians have been told not to charge their electric cars! 😂😂🤣 Not enough power in the grid. Liberalism is a mental disorder.

The economist is right out in front as usual. Rolling blackouts in Cali as it is.

The biggest challenge will be the used car market. U.S. poors can’t afford a 50k car.

alice_fulwood Birdyword SoumayaKeynes The whole electric idea is a farce of fake co2 life cycle analysis. The only mode of transport that is remotely climate friendly are electric scooters running on simply manufactured lead acid batteries that are fully and easily recycled into new batteries.

alice_fulwood Birdyword SoumayaKeynes With these electricity prices, all happily returns to the fossils.

alice_fulwood Birdyword SoumayaKeynes Yes, when we suffer from power issues already and supply chain issues, and why support China with this? And our state owned power company here tells us to keep up to 5000 euro as a buffer for the electric bills during winter, so no F electric cars, cost to much.

alice_fulwood Birdyword SoumayaKeynes Answer: no

northvolt Are EVs our best option? It's a huge environmental disaster waiting to happen. We've no real means of recycling the batteries. And the raw materials are polluting.
