Chris Bowan please take a quick look at Germany's energy situation and compare it to France which is run 2/3 nuclear. Then also compare both power prices! Nuclear is a long term investment. The capital cost and drawn out building time by government is what makes them unattractive
Nuclear is costly to build but lasts for decades and provides cheap power once up. Solar and wind by comparison are relatively cheap to build, but need to be backed up by coal / gas, replaced every 10 years, have a massive footprint, huge waste and require massive mining effort.
A bit off topic, but there was an absolutely huge Tesla in my car park this morning. It was more akin to a small armoured car than a car. I'd fined it difficult to believe my tiny ice car produces more emissions. I don't think the entire renewable energy policy pushed is correct

solar is the cheapest when the sun shines for those 5 hrs (avge) each day. solar to charge those batteries to provide power for those other 19hrs is where it gets expensive, multiple times more expensive than nuclear. If no sun for the next 24hrs we are either fucked or broke.

If it's so expensive why is Turkey, Indonesia, UK, Japan, South Korea, UAE, USA and many more all building nuclear power plants? Once you factor in storage, transmission and firming generation, weather and time of day dependent renewables are no longer the cheaper option.
