The Morrison government is again trying to change the law to let Australia's green bank invest in controversial carbon capture and storage technology under a $1 billion fund.
It would provide seed capital to the Labor Gillard government-era green bank on the grounds its remit includes carbon capture and storage technology yet to be shown to work at scale. The rest of the money for the new low emissions commercialisation fund is expected to come from the private sector.
Forgive me my cynicism but to me it is yet another hand out of taxpayers money to fossil fuels companies this time under the green umbrella.
Waste of money. We need renewables, EVs and not old technology that has failed in the past
Carbon capture? Okay maybe you could invest that money on electric and renewables… instead of going to someone’s mates
Pump it into the underwater aqua... that would be your solution
A quick search on that topic and you get: The peer-reviewed study found that carbon capture and storage technologies still face numerous barriers to short-term deployment and, even if these could be overcome, the technology “would only start to deliver too late.” Scomo fail...
Now that's a carbon tax and it won't help
Seems Scotty is getting busy for an election... Sweet lies to keep us happy
Renewable funding diverted to the Fossil fuel industry. He can't be trusted he is a......
A liar will not be believed, even when he speaks the truth The problem with Mr Flip Flop’s mega funding announcements is that there are too many instances where the money is not spent.
This government is reactive. Not proactive like they should be. Suddenly we look like idiots cause there’s no climate change policy: quick make some shit up and throw it out there.
Wasted opportunity, on a technology that hasn't even been proven to work. Look over there, solar, wind power...🤔
Carbon capture is a big fat 🤥
That money will go straight into the pockets of his billionaire mates. What a flog.
UNSAFE WORK PRACTICES: 1. Unskilled worker onsite 2. Head to big for hard hat
What a rort, hundreds of millions $ have been handed to these schemes in the past only to end up as political donations.
Knee-jerk reaction to placate voters and look like they have a plan. Yawn. ScottyTheAnnouncer
This is a waste of Our Money!
What a colossal waste of money to bury an essential life giving gas.
I have to laugh at all those idiots who shunned JuliaGillard ‘s zero carbon emission plan years ago. Way back when australia was a type of forward-thinking country. On track to be the first country to do so. Ahh those were the days...
Just call the election you just look deceptive Morison
😂😂😂 No one believes this government will actually do anything on climate. No one!
What the gov is saying is that they’ve found yet another way to prop up a ff company with public money to achieve nothing for the greater good of Australia. Whenever ScottyThePathologicalLiar announces gov spending, rest assured it’ll be a rort.
A short sighted PM that can't see any future on any technology but lies and tries to wriggle out of trouble by thowing money.
Which doesn't work and is was a laughing stock at the summit
To use an analogy. One is struggling to comprehend why, rather than preventing smoke from fire, by finding other means to keep you warm, the LNP government is almost pathologically locked into keeping the fire lit while spending billion on possible ways to catch the smoke?
and where off and running May 22 election in sight
An irresponsible decision to avoid reducing carbon emissions and facing the National Party. I would rather see this money funding deployment of current technologies. Imagine every building with solar panels
SBCNews auspol $500 million stripped from Clean Energy fund to go to carbon cronies!
Proving planet of the humans..!!
Big head no cattle!
More bullshit waste of money and more importantly valuable time. CCS DOES NOT AND NEVER HAS WORKED. It’s just a fig leaf to allow FF to continue business as usual. Stop “advertising” LNP policies, do your job and critique them. Poor man my country.
Why don’t news outlets say ‘another crack pot idea made up by the government using taxpayers money’?
Looks and reads like the election campaign has started
Why doesn't the party for free markets just impose a price on carbon and let the market sort out climate solutions, rather than hand-picking mates' projects to fund with billions of our tax dollars?
Good. Carbon capture is useful in offsetting emissions from heavy industry, steel production etc.
