The prime minister has defended the government’s $600 million investment in a new gas-fired generator after the energy market operator claimed the project would not be needed to fill the shortfall from the decommissioning of the Liddell power plant.

The Morrison government announced on Wednesday it will build a new 660-megawatt gas open-cycle generator in the Hunter Valley to supplement the energy grid upon the closing of the Liddell Power station. The Australian Energy Market Operator said Energy Australia’s proposed gas-fired power plant in the Illawarra was enough to bridge the gap left by Liddell’s closure in 2023.

So privatisation doesn’t work?

Considering the PM is a pathological liar with a history of hollow grandstanding and, Liddell is not due to shut until 2023, surely this can filed firmly in the 'announcements' category and pretty much dismissed as valid unless ground is actually broken on site?

Is gas importance for you now! What a brutal mind ! What happened if you invest in federal quarentine system for welcoming international students and your citizens.. My temper on Scott Morrison is 100%

A man who is playing with international students.we are literally depressed by policy of brutal & inhuman man- Scott: Scott Morrison government lied international students died. Return our embassy, medical ,tuition fee we are ready to leave Australia...- no value for STUDENT..

The gas fired power station built at Kurri Kurri NSW will be run on coal seam gas fracking and backed up by burning diesel.

The prime Minister went on to say, 'If I don't throw taxpayer money at unnecessary things, how can I be expected to get a cut?'

Gas fired. What fking century are they in

Clearly a champion for fossil fuel industry, not for the Australian people. This is bad policy

Why didn’t Morrison have the same vaccine he wants most others to have ? Good enough for him good enough for everyone.

A $600 public investment as a gift to a LNP private donor. Brazen corruption

Gotta keep your FUTURE EMPLOYER happy MMMorrison

Shadow Energy and Climate Change Minister Chris Bowen says the federal government’s plan for gas led recovery is “fraud” as no jobs have been created but gas will continue to play a role in the transition from fossil fuels to renewables.
