Thursday, July 4, 2024 10:25PMGov. Gavin Newsom offered a forceful defense of embattled President Joe Biden on Thursday, telling Democrats in Michigan that the 81-year-old president has the record and energy to win a second term despite widespread doubts about his ability to campaign or govern effectively.
Newsom was one of about two dozen Democratic governors who met with Biden last night at the White House, where the president worked to reassure them he is still a viable candidate against former President Donald Trump. "That was the Joe Biden I remember from two weeks ago. That was the Joe Biden I remember from two years ago. That's the Joe Biden I'm looking forward to re-electing to President of the United States," Newsom told the crowd, spurring applause and cheers."I screwed up," he said on a Wisconsin radio station. "I had a bad debate, but 90 minutes on stage does not erase what I've done for three and a half years.
"I got a guy I'm running against who is embracing political violence, pledging to rule as a dictator on day one," said Biden.
