SwRI's H2-ICE consortium has developed an ultra-low emission hydrogen-fueled engine, boosting clean energy in transportation.

In a major fillip to clean energy initiatives in transportation, Southwest Research Institute has successfully developed a hydrogen-fueled demonstration vehicle with low emissions.

The group aimed to promote sustainable mobility by utilizing cutting-edge hydrogen engine technology. According to SwRI, the consortium’s main goal was to show how H2-ICE vehicles might support other zero-emission vehicle technologies. “We wanted the program to align with the Environmental Protection Agency’s Phase-3 greenhouse gas policy, so we knew our timeline was ambitious. It took incredible planning by the integration teams to ensure that the build proceeded smoothly,” said Ryan Williams, a SwRI Powertrain Engineering Division manager and the H2-ICE consortium’s program manager.
